Petition To Empower College Athletes:
The Call For Athlete Representation
I recognize the immense contribution that athletes make to their respective institution’s success both financially and culturally. As the NCAA, universities, and conferences engage in ongoing discussions about sharing revenue with athletes through direct NIL payments, I believe it is time for athletes to take their deserved place at this table and directly negotiate the terms and benefits of their participation in this $20 Billion industry (including revenue sharing, medical benefits, scholarships, etc).
Furthermore, I acknowledge that all of the leaders at that table (coaches, administrators) have their own formal organizations representing their interests. These include the NCAA, NACDA, AFCA, NABC, NATA. I believe college athletes, the youngest and most vulnerable constituents at this table, should have their own formal representation separate from their schools to support, educate, and advocate for their interests. College athletes make extraordinary commitments and sacrifices to not only participate in their sport, but create immense value for their university while bringing joy to millions of fans across the world. They deserve to be independently represented so they can play a role in making decisions about their participation in the upside of the economy that is driven by their talents.
By signing this pledge, I am calling on other coaches, college athletics and university leaders, athletes, and fans to join me in supporting the effort to create a fair and sustainable future for college athletics. A future that will end the constant litigation and entails college athletics leaders working alongside the college athletes who drive this industry forward through their hard work, dedication and persistence.
